張廷彥（西元一七三五至一七九四年），江蘇揚州人，一作庭彥。乾隆朝供奉內廷。工人物。
圖繪桂樹雙株，幹橫花滿枝。二仕女併立其間，一手執紈扇；一懷抱白兔。容貌詳和，敷色雅澹，衣摺紋路簡明有力。裙擺衣帶飄曳，似薰風輕拂，全局氣氛柔和安逸。
青女，乃天神、青霄玉女，主霜雪。按淮南子天文「至秋三月，青女乃出，以降霜雪。」素娥，即指嫦娥，因月色白，故亦以素稱之。

The Goddesses Ch’ing-nu and Chang-o
Chang T’ing-yen (1735-1794)
Ch’ing Dynasty (1644-1911)
According to Chinese mythology, the celestial beauty Blue Lady is the heavenly being in charge of frost and snow. The “Celestial Phenomena” chapter of the Huai-nan-tzu, an ancient text, notes that “Blue Lady appears in the third month of autumn, sending down frost and snow.” Ch’ang O, a deity who lives on the moon, is often depicted in the moon’s pale white colors and is iconographically associated with a white rabbit and the sweet osmanthus.
In this rendition of these two faeries, two blossoming osmanthus trees spiral around the figures of the women as they stand in a quiet garden. Blue lady holds a cooling fan, while Ch’ang O nestles a white rabbit in her arms. The artist has limned the figures in delicate colors, employing succinct, forceful lines to define the many folds of their robes and sashes blown aslant by the wind.
Chang T’ing-yen, a native of Yangchow, Kiangsu, was noted for his figure paintings. During the reign of the Ch’ien-lung emperor (r.1736-1795) he was summoned to serve in the Inner Court.
